Effective January 1, 2010, the Super Speeder law will add additional fees onto the highest-risk drivers on the roads by fining those who excessively break the speed limit. Also titled HB160, the new Super Speeder law will automatically add an additional $200 fine to any local fines already in effect if the driver is travelling at 75 mph or higher on any two lane state road or 85 mph or higher on any road in Georgia.
Any driver convicted of violating HB160 will be classified as a “super speeder” by the state and will be subject to additional fees. The result of failing to pay the Super Speeder fee is an additional $50 fee and the suspension of the offender’s driving privileges and license.
The fees collected from the Super Speeder law are intended to fund Georgia’s trauma care hospital care system, thereby using the fees collected from high risk drivers to help treat the victims of high speed accidents.
